Tractive Effort Curves

Over the years a large number of tractive effort curves have been published by both manufacturers and various national railways as well as a number of technical publications. This information is often difficult to access given the time that has elapsed since it was published and often inaccurate data is perpetuated from one publication to another.  It is intended that the information in this web page is available in a common format (in the form of a picture and the raw data). Where information is derived or suspect it is highlighted.

Vehicle Resistance Data

A key variable in determining the performance of a railway vehicle is the calculation of the rolling and aerodynamic resistance. As with the tractive effort curves this data has been published in various locations but is often difficult to access.
